This tenement has been inhabited by the German mercantile family of Correns for generations. Paul Correns was born and raised in it. Thanks to his hard work one of the most interesting papers has been created, which described the history and cultural and social life of the residents of the XIX century Gniew “Chronik der Stadt Mewe, Graudenz 1897”. The chronicle was issued on behalf of the municipal government in 1897 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of granting Gniew the municipal rights.

After graduating from secondary school, he studied at the university in Wroclaw, he has also obtained his doctorate there. Later on he has worked as a teacher in Grudziadz and Chełmno.
