Two wells were once located on the market, which were equipped with hand pumps, the history of which most probably goes back to the origins of the city. In 1866 cast iron pumps were created in their place – one was located near the town hall, and the second one in the southern part of the market, and this one has been preserved to this day.
The merchant Lessing was their founder, in the amount of 1000 crowns, and to commemorate him this well bears his name to this day.
After World War I, when the water supply was temporarily closed, water was pumped from these wells.
