The village once located on the amber trail, and then on the so-called royal route. In the written sources it appeared for the first time in 1294 as Penesscow, in 1604 as Pieniąskowo, and finally in 1933 it became Pieniążkowo. In the Middle Ages the village was owned by the bishops of Kujawy.
During the Thirteen Years’ War the discussions between the King Kazimierz Jagiello and the Order were conducted in Pieniążkowo, concerning the purchase of Malbork from their hands. At the end of the XVI century the church was built, which was founded by the family of Oleski.
In January 1807, in the area between Pieniążkowo and Ostrowit, the skirmish of the Polish uprising troops took place, which were led by gen. Jakub Komierowski, and the Prussian army troops. Shortly after this event the regular Polish army marched into Pieniążkowo, also gen. Jan Henryk Dąbrowski came here – the kreator of the Polish Legions in Italy.
In Pieniążkowo there is a lake, with which numerous legends are connected. One of them says that there is a church at the bottom of the lake, which tower has damaged nets of many fishermen. One time, the great diving daredevil went to the temple, but in the cemetery surrounding the church he has noticed a dig with the fire in its mouth. He has immediately crossed himself and went boldly on. When he entered the church, he saw kneeling people and a priest. But when he touched anybody, the body has immediately turned into dust. There is a swimming pool by the lake.
