Miasto i Gmina Gniew

Gniew Area of Protected Landscape reaches beyond the area of the municipality of Gniew and it includes the areas of Morzeszczyn and Pelplin. Gniew Area of Protected Landscape was created by the Decree no. 5 of the Gdansk Governor of 1994.11.08 in order to protect the naturally valuable areas. This area covers 2 586 ha and includes the final section of the Wierzyca valley from Janiszewo (municipality of Pelplin) to the mouth of Vistula. In addition to the Wierzyca valley, there are fragments of strongly wavy, forested moraine plateau. The main natural value of the area is constituted by the river valley with the whole set of morphological elements and with the varied vegetation communities. The role of the valley as the so-called ecological corridor is especially important.
