The Lower Vistula Trail

The trail begins in the village of Nowe and ends in Tczew, a total count of 75km (36km in the municipality of Gniew). Second, as to the length of the trail at the Kociewie. It runs along the riverbed of the Queen of Polish rivers - the Vistula.

The course of the north-Gniew trail (in the municipality of Gniew):

Wielkie Walichnowy - Kuchnia - Polskie Gronowo - Ciepłe - Gniew

The course of the south-Gniew trail (in the municipality of Gniew):

Gniew - Nicponia - Tymawa - Potłowo - Jaźwiska - Opalenie

The trail is full of beautiful views of the Vistula River, but not only… Near Opalenie you can see the remains of the rail-road bridge on the Vistula from 1909, the elements of which create the current road bridge in Torun and you can visit the monument of the creator of the Vistula regulation - Gottlieb Schmid. It is the land of plums and wicker. Here, you may buy yourself delicious plum jams, and a wicker basket. Near Tymawa you will be delighted by the beautiful hills and ravines, formerly knows as the Alps of Tymawa.

The trail from the southern end of the municipality to the town of  Nicponia leads in the area of the Vistula Protected Landscape Area, where we can fin two nature reserves, Wiosło Duże and Wiosło Małe. From Nicponia, the trail enters the Gniew Protected Landscape Area. In the northern part of the trail, near the town of Ciepłe and Polskie Gronowo, there are three ecological areas, which are the mainstay of the rare species of aquatic birds, as well as plants and animals. In this region we can find traces of the Mennonites – the Dutch settlers. Along the Vistula there is the area of Natura 2000.
